Welcome to the Interculture Wiki
This wiki, hosted by the University of Padova, Italy, will serve as the platform for a series of telecollaboration projects carried out by language teachers and researchers at the University of Padova with colleagues at higher education institutions abroad. As part of these telecollaboration projects, we hope that the students will develop wiki pages that focus on different aspects of culture and intercultural competence and that this can then serve as a resource not only for the students involved but other users on the Web as well. The wiki is readable to the public but only editable via password. If you would like to contribute, and you are, of course, welcome to, please send an email to the administrator, Sarah Guth.
Index of the projects currently being carried out.
The Padova-Dickinson project is an exchange between last-year Master's level degree students in English at the University of Padova, Italy, and third-year undergraduate students at Dickinson College, PA, USA studying Italian. Both courses use a cultural studies approach to teaching the respective language and the exchange project to develop students' intercultural competence.
Padova Students - happy the last day of class!

This Padova-Sabanci project is an exchange between 3rd-year Italian and Turkish students. The students use English as a Lingua Franca (ELF). Both courses use a topic based approach to teaching English and the exchange project to develop students' intercultural competence and communication skills.
This project is the first one aimed at using English as a lingua franca rather than between students of Italian and students of English. For every native speaker of English, there are now 3-4 non-native speakers in the world. In this changing landscape English language students need to learn to effectively communicate with English speakers from many different cultures. This entails developing their intercultural competence. The aim of this project is to allow students to use their English to develop their knowledge and understanding of their own culture and other cultures as well.
N.B. The project was not carried out. The two institutions are going to try and organize an exchange for next year, 2009. In the meantime, the Padova-Sabanci exchange is a good example of an English as a lingua franca exchange.
The Padova-Tulane project is an exchange in it's second year. This year it will involve Intermediate students of English at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Padova and pre-intermediate students of Italian at Tulane University.
This is an exchange between last-year Master's level degree students in English at the University of Padova, Italy, and students in Global Communications at the University of Albany, USA.
The second round of exchanges between last-year Master's level degree students in English at the University of Padova, Italy, and students of Italian at Tulane University, USA. This was the first time we used Skype and the recording software Pamela in planned weekly Skype sessions.

End of course spritz with Padova students in May, 2007 ;-)
Last year's Tulane-Padova exchange was a very positive experience for all of those involved. Too bad our peers from the USA couldn't be there too.

Dear professor Guth,
I can't understand why everytime someone creates a new page in the wiki this is sent directly to my e-mail address.
What should I do to stop it?
Thanks a lot
Best greetings

Dear Sarah, I've already created my ''partner classes'' page. However, the link is not underlined yet. What should I do? Thanks a lot!
Have a nice day!

Dear Alida, I wish I had an answer! I also wish I knew why you can't log in with a name. I'll try and figure it out and let you know on Wednesday. (p.s. Please call me Sarah!)
Dear Martina, I'm sorry, but I don't understand your question since you've already been writing. The link is only underlined if it isn't a page yet and yours is already a page so now it is not underlined (see the link on the Front Page). If there's still a problem, let me know.

Dear Sarah,
I have just come back home from Egypt. I carried out the first task and I worked in "Water resources in Italy" page (I had some problems, as you can see from the structure of the page!. As far as the second task is concerned, I can't carry it out by today because I haven't got the headphones to hear the webcasts. If the laboratory will be free tomorrow, I will carry it out.
Bye Barbara
